The purpose of my blog is to share what I am studying, and what Ruach HaKodesh reveals to me while I am studying, and hopefully connect with other students of His Word so that we can grow and learn together.  I always had my dad to talk to about the scriptures, and now that he is gone it is difficult to find people who spend time studying and love to talk about what they are learning and meditating on.

The Dusty Scholar Blog got its name from the Jewish concept that as a disciple followed after his rabbi that disciple would become covered in the dust his rabbi kicked up as they journeyed together.  I guess to some it would seem sort of a romantic or fanciful idea….but the truth is that being a disciple takes…well… – discipline!  There’s nothing fanciful about the life of a devoted disciple.

A long time ago it was considered an honor for a rabbi to invite you to be his follower.  Although, most people don’t think about it in that way today, it is a great honor to be invited to be a follower of Yeshua, and yet it is an invitation He extends to everyone.  When you accept His invitation to be His follower, you may not realize that this journey is an arduous one.  Many disciples forsake the journey before the first dust cloud settles.

I spend as much time as I can studying the TaNaKh and the B’rit Hadashah.  The dust I come into contact with while going through my earthly father’s old notes and books reminds me of the Jewish blessing, “May you be covered in his dust”.  That is what I long to be.  I long to be covered in the dust of Jesus – Yeshua HaMashiach.
